亲爱的走鹃,

总统ial Statement graphic

Sunday morning, we woke to news of yet another horrific mass shooting. On the eve of Transgender Day of Remembrance, this tragedy unfolded at an LBGTQ club in our own state following last week’s senseless student killings at the universities of Virginia 和 Idaho. 作为一个母亲, 妹妹, 表兄, 阿姨, friend 和 colleague of so many brilliant LGBTQ+ human beings 和 the president of a university so proud of 和 committed to its robust 和 resilient LGBTQ community, 我的心都碎了.

It goes without saying that 密歇根州立大学丹佛 st和s in support of our LGBTQ community on campus 和 all of those impacted by the weekend’s tragedy, 和 we want to help provide the space necessary to foster healing 和 safety. We are organizing events 和 resources to help students, faculty 和 staff members process last weekend’s shooting, 和 we will make additional community spaces, 无论是虚拟的还是面对面的, available for students when they return to campus next week. Stay tuned to the ‘Runner 和 Early Bird for more information on these specific initiatives. 与此同时, please support each other through compassion, patience 和 flexibility as we grapple with this tragic situation.

It can be hard to keep our sense of awe 和 optimism after a week like this. Beyond the anger 和 grieving, such news is a reminder of how precious life is. I hope you’ll use the Fall Break not only to get much deserved rest 和 rejuvenation, but to reflect. Apart from everything else in the world, this is a week for gratitude, love 和 grace.
